Born into royalty, Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec-Monfa, better known as Toulouse-Lautrec, suffered a fracture in his left leg at the age of thirteen. At fourteen, he fractured his left. Afterward, his legs failed to grow, and his adult height was just four feet, eight inches.
“The body of a beautiful woman is not made for love; it is too exquisite. Love is when the desire to be desired takes you so badly that you feel you could die of it. I paint things as they are.” Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
In the nineteenth century, Paris -- with its fashion, entertainment, and arts -- dominated the world stage. Toulouse-Lautrec captured this world in paintings, posters, and prints. His images were often provocative -- but always elegant and lively. The world lost a special vision when Toulouse-Lautrec died at the early age of thirty-seven.
