In 1531, the Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego three times. She asked him to tell Bishop Juan de Zumárraga to build a chapel for her on Tepeyac Hill, north of Mexico City. Initially, the bishop didn’t believe Juan. However, when Juan showed him his cloak with the rare flowers and the image of the Virgin on his tunic, the bishop fell to his knees and sought her forgiveness.
