William Morris Cray Metal Bookmark

$15.00

William Morris started designing wallpaper fabrics in 1862 though he did not start printing and selling them until 1864.  Every design has a tribute to plants or flowers delicately woven around and in between themselves to create a unique and beautiful pattern.  Morris’ designs were quickly admired throughout the industry and by those who appreciate art. Cray, one of William Morris's most complex designs, was produced at Merton Abbey Mills in London. The original 1884 production was printed by hand with 34 carved pear-wood blocks. This design, with its meandering river-like quality, was named after a nearby river, the Cray.
