The inspiration for these earrings is a detail from a gold earring made during the Abbasid caliphate (750–1258). Considered a “Golden Age” of Muslim art, it was a distinctive style that combined Byzantine elements, a beveled style, and abstract plant and geometric forms. It was later known in the West as “arabesque”.
