Geisha With Fan Metal Bookmark
The bookmark was inspired by one of the “beauties” in Kitagawa Utamaro's triptych of courtesans and children strolling along a riverbank in the historic city of Edo (modern-day Tokyo). Japanese prints depicting actors and courtesans and the world they inhabited are referred to as ukiyo-e, or the “art of the Floating World.” Widely sought after by collectors since the mid-19th century, Ukiyo-e is perhaps the most popular and best-known of Japanese art forms in the Western world.
