The Blue Jay indirectly plays a part in planting new trees by collecting and burying seeds -- and not retrieving them. They are known to mimic the call of hawks, either to warn other jays of their presence or deceive other species into thinking a hawk is near. The black markings around their head vary from individual to individual and may help them to identify one another.
