In classical ballet, supporting all the weight on the tips of an extended food is called “en pointe”. The preparation for pointe work is a gradual process as a dancer must develop the requisite strength and have foot bones that can bear the weight. Barre exercises as shown in this bookmark are part of the learning process. Once learned, the technique results in making the dancers appear weightless and sylphlike.
