This view of the Eiffel Tower is from the Champ de Mars, a large public greenspace between the Eiffel Tower and the École Militaire. When Gustave Eiffel built his tower for the 1889 World's Fair, it was expected that it would be dismantled in 1909. Fortunately, the elegant structure quickly became an iconic symbol of Paris and was saved.
