Charley Harper Woodpecker Earrings

Charley Harper (American, 1922-2007) observed of the red-bellied woodpecker that this is the bird with the belly that baffles beginning birders--its belly is almost ALL WHITE! (except for a tiny spot of red). But the red-bellied's head is red like the red-headed woodpecker.
